FUMO ISSUES STATEMENT CONCERNING
CASINO USE OF ILMC LAND
PHILADELPHIA,
March 10, 2008 – In conjunction with the
City Council Rules Committee meeting today regarding the proposed Foxwoods
Casino development on the Delaware River waterfront, state Senator Vince Fumo
(D-Philadelphia) issued the following statement:
“Interstate Land Management Corporation (ILMC) controls
certain lands along Interstate 95. As a state Senator who has a seat on the ILMC
board, I want to make it clear at this time that I will vigorously oppose
leasing any ILMC space underneath I-95, or elsewhere, in Pennsport for employee
or, especially, bus parking for Foxwoods. The same holds true for Queen Village,
Society Hill, and Whitman.
“Use of such land resources for the casino would
increase traffic congestion and air pollution in Pennsport to a degree that
would be unacceptable to the residents of the community. It is an unacceptable
potential solution to the requirements of the Foxwoods facility, one that would
come at the severe expense of Pennsport or other neighborhoods."
