FUMO TO REMAIN HOSPITALIZED OVERNIGHT AS PRECAUTION 

     HARRISBURG, June 26, 2008 -- State Senator Vince Fumo (D-Philadelphia) will remain in Harrisburg Hospital overnight. He was taken there after collapsing on the floor of the Senate around 5 p.m. this evening.

     His official condition is "stable for observation."           

     Fumo was in conversation on the Senate floor with several colleagues when he said he felt lightheaded and dizzy. He then fell to the floor. He told paramedics who came to attend him that he did not lose consciousness and that he did not have chest pains. 

     He agreed to go to the hospital and was taken by ambulance. Doctors there said there was no evidence of another heart attack, but they decided he should remain overnight for observation as a precautionary measure in light of his recent medical history. Fumo suffered a heart attack at his home in Philadelphia on March 2. 

     Fumo had been at the Capitol all day participating in state budget negotiations.
