HARRISBURG, March 15, 2001 – State Senator Vincent J. Fumo (D-Philadelphia) issued the following statement today concerning the appointment of state Education Secretary Eugene Hickok to be Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.

     "I would like to congratulate Secretary Hickok on his new position. We worked well together during his time here. I found him to be a source of creative and innovative ideas for improving schools in Pennsylvania. I’m sure he will be an asset to the administration in Washington, D.C."
