FUMO DOING WELL AFTER SUCCESSFUL SURGERY PHILADELPHIA, January 28, 2005 – State Senator Vincent Fumo (D-Philadelphia) underwent successful surgery this morning at Pennsylvania Hospital. Dr. Fred Simeone, neurosurgeon at the hospital, performed the operation on Fumo’s cervical spine to relieve pain and numbness in the senator’s right arm. The condition was caused by compression of nerves leading to the arm. Simeone said Fumo, 61, came through the surgery very well and is doing fine. Fumo will remain in the hospital overnight and should be able to resume his normal schedule of activity in about a week. The hospital has listed his condition as stable. # |
